Two Pitfalls of Email Marketing
May 26, 2009
If you want to take advantage of email marketing for your online business to make money online, be sure you stay away from the pitfalls that will surely cause failure. These include operating without a plan and sending to email addresses without permission.
1) Operating Without a Plan
Email marketing can be the most effective means to promote your offerings and generate sales. However, you need to have strategy and make sure that every email you send to your subscribers plays a role in your overall plan and helps your online business get closer to its ultimate goal. For this reason, you must have a plan that will guide you through your entire email marketing campaign from content to timing. Without a plan and an overall strategy, your are potentially wasting your time with email marketing.
2) Sending to Email Addresses Without Permission
One other thing you must avoid with email marketing is sending your messages to email addresses without the owners’ permission. Just because you have come across a working email address, it doesn’t mean that you have permission to send emails to it. You can easily gain tons of bad publicity and lose leads in this manner. Be patient with your opt-in list and give it time to grow. Keep in mind that the quality of your subscription list is more important than the number of subscribers it contains. If you invite people to opt in and they end up ignoring your invitation, it means that they are not interested in what you have to offer. Since they are not likely to buy from you no matter what you do, there’s no use wasting your efforts on them.
These are the two things you need to avoid if you want to succeed with your email marketing campaign. Committing these mistakes can lead to email marketing failure and maybe even the ultimate failure of your online business.
